Last Minute Outfits for Work

Being a working adult is hard. Being just an "adult" is hard enough but then you throw an actual job into the mix and suddenly you're questioning why you tried so hard to graduate college on time. Let's be real, no one likes having a job. Like, if money wasn't in the equation and you had the option to not work, maybe 2 out of 100 people would voluntarily have a job and the rest of us would do something else with our time. Like sleeping. I would 1,000% rather sleep than do most activities and that mentality becomes so real on a weekday morning.

College taught me how to wake up and get ready for something in under ten minutes, so when I started working I applied this same routine, just modified a bit for a corporate work environment. I mean, I would love to show up to work everyday in leggings and Birkenstocks but people would probably start thinking I have an unstable home life or can't afford pants. Now, when I accidentally hit snooze too many times and needed to leave for work seven minutes ago we start working on a "need" priority system and the first thing I need to do, besides feed my cat, is change my clothes.

Also in case you were wondering, the priority order goes:

  1. Changes clothes. This is the one thing that you can only do at home and you legitimately can't show up to work in your pajamas. There was an entire 10 year TLC show dedicated to this. Hi Stacy, hi Clinton, I miss you both.
  2. Do your face. Bare minimum only, y'all. Foundation, bronzer, mascara, leave. If you need to bring your makeup bag with you and finish up at the office, do it. I've definitely done that on more than one occasion and I'd be lying if I told you I haven't seen other people doing the same thing at their desk or in the bathroom.
  3. Hair. Honestly, if I'm running late I skip this step and throw up a messy bun in the car when I'm at a stop light. Or when I'm in the elevator. Or at my desk. Who cares. You can do your hair anywhere, stop wasting time.
  4. Food. Grab a smoothie or juice out of the fridge and let's peace out. I'm also lucky enough to work walking distance from a Whole Foods and two other coffee shops, so usually I skip this if needed and get something once I'm at work. Also, I've started keeping Clif Bars in a drawer at my desk for emergencies like this.

Here are a few under-a-minute outfit options to keep in the back of your mind for those days when your warm blankets and soft pillows get the best of you. I'm going to go take a nap.

One Decision Outfits

Rompers, jumpsuits, and dresses. For when you should have been at work already.

Two Decision Outfits

Blouses, button-ups, and pants. For when you're late, but it's been worse.

Slip These On

No time for tying. Find a neutral flat or bootie that won't fall off when you run to the car.

If It's Cold, Grab These

You can put a scarf with almost every outfit and instantly have a complete look. A neutral or monochromatic pattern goes with everything. Jean jackets are good to keep in mind for dresses or when you're not already wearing denim. In that case, you can never go wrong with a hunter green bomber jacket.
