All Rise for the Planet: A 2030 Show Trial

Climate change and environmental activist group Plan B has partnered with renowned London galleries, performance art groups and The Tate Modern to host a show trial examining institutional impacts and effects on climate change in the year 2030. When branding this movement, Plan B and their partners sought to inspire the public into mobilization through the use of scientific facts and shed light on just how little time we have left to make legal and social changes before we pass the point of no return. While we were tasked with creating a brand for an event, we were consciously branding a social justice movement.

For this project, we were tasked to brand the event and create a public relations strategy to garner attendees. While the Tate Exchange trial takes place in July 2019, the All Rise brand participated in the Media School Public Program taking place at the London College of Communication in April-May 2019 as part of the Visible Justice Exhibition. This was done to spark interest in the topic of climate change and July event, as well as to coincide with the London-wide protests initiated by event partner Extinction Rebellion.

All Rise Mark and Branding

The All Rise mark led the way for any subsequent branding opportunities and purposefully was kept to a simplified shape to lend itself to grassroots activism and public recognition. We combined the shape of a hazard sign with the merged iconography of the thermometer and exclamation point to portray the immediacy of the environmental situation. Utilizing and expanding on Plan B’s core brand color palette of red and black, we introduced a rich green and a vivid yellow to create a more engaging aesthetic.

Digital Presence

Digital marketing traffic would be driven to the event landing page hosted on Plan B’s website. Users are able to learn more about the July 2019 show trail, download the schedule of hearings, and learn more about third-party sponsors and partners including Vivienne Westwood, Extinction Rebellion and more.

Initial Exhibition

Utilizing the gallery wall space for the Visible Justice exhibition, we created a fly-poster wall with All Rise posters and donations from other climate change activist groups. Not only was this a nod to the origins of the urban poster in disseminating information to the public, but also to the history of activism. Extra posters were free to the public to take with the call to action “TAKE ONE AND ACT NOW”. The fly poster wall will be reproduced at the Tate Exchange space for the July exhibition using previously exhibited posters, additional donations received from non-profit organizations and large-scale A0 seed paper tear-away posters.
